Love and free stuff!

Don’t forget to check out the Blog Hop Spot!

I decided I wanted to try taking part in the With Love Valentines Day Blog Hop this year, and that means a giveaway!

If you comment on my posts between now and Valentines Day (that’s Feb 14, kids) you’ll be entered in a drawing for a $10.00 Amazon GC! Be sure you leave your email with your comment so I know how to get in contact with you. I’ll draw and announce after the 14th. And be sure to check out the above link – there’s a lot of other giveaways going on and a lot of great prizes to be won!

Valentines Day. What can I say about it? For those of us who celebrate Singles Awareness Day, it tends to be a kick in the teeth. We’re expected to either growl about the inhumanity and commercialism of the holiday, or pout and sulk.

I opt for the third choice and take myself out for a self-date each year, proudly wearing a tiara, but that’s me. (Hey, don’t knock it til you’ve tried it – I get to go where I want, I don’t have any anxieties about ordering real food, it’s great company, and I always know what the expectations are at the end of the night 😉

But, admittedly, even those of us who seem to be hard-hearted have their soft spots. I love a rom-com as much as the next girl (SHHHHHH), and I have my share of songs that make me swoon. Granted, a lot of these are in the hair metal/classic rock genre, but they still do their job.

And while I love reading the dark and dreadful, I will admit (as I have before) that I have a soft spot for a good romance story. I think all of us, if we’re being honest, want to connect to someone and be understood and adored…and it doesn’t hurt if that’s by someone who makes our motor run. Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy, Kathy Love, Kylie Adams, Donna Kaufman – I’ve picked up titles by all of these talented ladies when I need a life pick-me-up.  And I may think some stuffed animals are really, really cute – every year around Valentines I proudly display my french-talking casanova tiger that slyly twitches its tale when I squeeze his paw…I still can’t decide if it’s cute or a really clever innuendo brought to us by Halmark.

Granted, I get ribbed a lot about this dual personality – I’m supposed to be this tough broad and all that…but c’mon, that’s not a person, that’s a a caricature.  I may have a different way of looking at things, but that doesn’t mean I’m not all for love and treating people right.

So how’s about it? How do you celebrate this time of year? Is it wonderful or an insult, marketing or a celebration? And don’t forget to comment to be entered in the giveaway!

And while you’re at it, remember to jet on over to The Blog Hop Spot for a lot more giveaways and free stuff to be had!

  1. happy valentine day. we don’t do much anymore, send cards and a bit of money to the grandkids. we enjoy ourselves having no kids at home. we’ll share making a meal that takes a lot of prep time cuz we both like to experiment.

  2. I’m single, so V-Day is just a day — but it’a also a fantastic opportunity to curl up with a good book and a box of sinfully fantastic chocolate!

  3. Hi Zillah 🙂 I wish I would’ve thought of going out alone wearing a tiara when I was single!! For us, it used to suck (dh married his first wife on Vday) and seeing as how they divorced…you can imagine how much he just LOVES V day. Normally, we do whatever comes to mind. Never any huge plans 🙂

  12. Well nice to meet a fellow single celebrater 😉
If I’m single I usually do something fun with my girlfriends, we go to movies, bowling or make a girls only evening at home and play wii or singstar, watch movies(rom-com, adventure or fantasy) and cook together…
Then again I’m happy that Valentine’s Day is not that big deal as in USA ^.^

  13. Dual personas are very acceptable, Authors tend to be a quirky lot anyways so live up to the expectation. I see Feb 14 kind of like Christmas, all kinds of packaging with all kinds of surprises so one big adventure.

  14. I love that you treat yourself!!!!

  15. It’s a holiday I enjoy. My DH never forgets a gift and it’s good to get a reminder to appreciate the ones we love.

  16. I LOVE Valentine’s Day! I’ve always seen it as a special day to show the people in your life that you care. That doesn’t always mean a man either. I will be spending this V-Day with my husband and that is rare. He’s in the Army and deploys alot so he misses alot of Holidays. I’m looking forward to getting spoiled =)

Love the idea of a self-date, tiara and all. You go girl!

  17. Lately, I feel Valentine’s Day is sort of like a commercial day…but it’s a day where we can pester our loved ones or ourselves to do something special other than the b-day

  19. thanks for the giveaway!! yeah valentine’s day and a corny holiday that make mass producers happy and us consumers poor from spending… imagine in japan that they have a reciprocal day a month after valentine’s day ( white day ) where guy who receive chocolate from girls on valentine’s day are suppose to buy stuffs to give to the girls who gave them chocolates!

  20. happy valentine’s Day! well i find it a nice holiday where industrial are happy that we consumers are always suckered into spending stuffs on valentine’s day. i guess it’s a win-win situation for both parties…

  21. i like celebrating Valentine’s day with my boyfriend. It’s another romantic night out…can’s have too many of those 🙂

  33. Ah…finally! Others who are apart of the Single Awareness Day. I won’t spout too much about the day because I tend to rant. So I’ll just say I actually don’t do too much except use the day(and I’ll be honest, many days after that) as an excuse to eat chocolate!

  34. Please enter me in your contest, thanks!

My email is posted in the form.

  35. When I was single I had fun with my friends. Exchanging chocolate and all of that. Now my husband and I use it as an extra excuse to go on a date :0)

  36. I enjoy Valentine’s Day with my husband now but if I was single I would love to try your idea. Instead of being cynical or pouting I would love to pamper myself. (Sounds like heaven now with two kids!!)

  37. As a widow not so much into this “celebration”. Throw my name in the pot for your great giveaway.

  38. I am one of the lucky ones, since I have been happily married 36,years. Our secret is to make each other feel special and loved every day.

  39. I plan to celebrate V’day curled up with a good hot romance on the kindle, and maybe a little chocolate. LOL
Hope you have a good Valentine’s day! Thank you for the giveaway!
    manning_J2004 at yahoo dot com

  40. I have no significant other so I will be doing nothing this year… Oh, well! Hope I win!

  41. Hmm…I think I’m going to spend my V day with my daughter snuggled up to a huge box of chocolates and a disney movie 🙂 I hope your V day is rockin!! Mine is tame this year.

  42. Singles Awareness Day – I haven’t known about it, but I totally support it. The Valentine’s Day hype makes me tired. No amount of chocolate can balance the cheesy heart-shaped pillows and teddy-bears. I guess I fall into cynical category.

  43. Until I get my own guy, our family celebrates kind of casually. (I’m the last left in the roost.) We’re having a special dessert, and I know I’ll get an amazingly sweet card from my dad, because that’s what he always does. It’s nice and simple. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be exclusively about *romantic* love.

  44. Happy Valentine’s Day!
I love these hops. What a great way to discover new authors/blogs and visit with old friends.
Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win such a fantastic prize!

  45. I love the title of today’s blog cause I love free stuff too

  48. Well I usually don’t do anything, for one thing, I don’t have a special someone and for another thing…I work a second shift so I get off work late at night and usually am very tired…I’m sure I just need a good incentive to pick me up though 😉 Thanks for participating in the Hop, lots of un so far!

  49. Happy Valentine’s Day. Thanks for the giveaway.

  50. I don’t have a significant other so I don’t get to worked up about the hype. I usually just babysit my grandkids so my daughter and son-in-law can go out for the evening.

  51. I dont have a significant other. Im staying home, reading a good book and blog hopping. 😉 Thank you sharing and for the great giveaway! Happy Valentines!
