Upcoming Hops!

•October 16, 2012 • 1 Comment

One of the things that’s fun about October is trick or treating…and in that spirit I’m involved with three blog hops towards the end of the month. They all have different themes and are with different groups, but I definitely want to spread the Halloween joy and lurv by celebrating the different nuances of the holiday.

The first one will be from the 19-22 and is all about Alpha Heroes. That one has some grand prizes, so I’ll let Carrie Ann tell you about it. Take it away Carrie Ann!

What is your favorite thing about Alpha Heroes? Well, we authors are ready to share our favorite Alpha Males, our favorite things about them, and everything sexy and heated about those Alpha Males you can think of. *wink* Starting on Friday and ending on Oct 22nd, over 200 Authors and Bloggers will share their favorite things about those sexy men we know and love.

And while we do that, we are EACH doing a giveaway. Yep. There will be over 200 giveaways on each blog hosted by that Author or Blogger.

But that’s not all….

We have THREE grand prizes. You as a reader can go to EACH blog and comment with your email address and be entered to win. Yep, you can enter over 200 times!

Now what are those prizes?

1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet

2nd Grand Prize: A $130 Amazon or B&N Gift Card

3rd Grand Prize: The Following Swag Pack!

The next hop I’ll be involved in will be the Wicked After Dark Blog Hop and will run from Oct 24-Nov 1. Of course, as the title implies, things will get wicked and we’ll be talking about all sorts of fun (and seductive) Halloween things!

And then the last hop will be the Howloween Blog Hop, which runs from Oct 26-29. Along with the rest of the blog hop spot participants, I’ll be talking about my favorite parts of Halloween!

Of course, I’ll be doing a giveaway for each, so be sure to trick or treat on by my blog during those dates! I’ll keep the porch light on!

This week’s six again comes from The Inheritance, because what’s better suited for October and Halloween then creepy dolls? Mwahahaha..

The Six:

Inhumanly smooth plastic brushed up his arm. The molded fingertips were permanently curled and the seams of the plastic bit ever-so-lightly into his skin. “Daddy, I’m a good girl.” The voice was a soft whisper that was close to — but not the same — as his daughter’s. “I’ll be your little girl. I’ll sit with you.”

NBP: Back to School Bash!

•September 28, 2012 • 5 Comments

While I’m glad that I don’t have to go back now that I am old (hey, there are benefits), I will admit to being the typical suck-up goodie-goodie girl as a kid. Yeah, yeah, I know. There was just something about the start of the new school year that was like the start of the new year for me. I loved getting new pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, backpacks (I went through them fast. It wasn’t until my parents got desperate and made me buy them from the army surplus store that I had one last an entire year), lunchboxes, pencil boxes…

Or maybe I really didn’t like school as much as I liked the accessories. Seriously, I still find myself longingly flipping through ads when this time of year rolls around, trying to find an excuse to get five thousand notebooks for a dime a piece or a comforter set that probably won’t fit on my bed, but it’s a deal so why not?

Yeah, I know. It’s a weird form of kryptonite, but there it is.

As for school, itself, I liked English. I liked history, I liked anything that involved stories (imagine that?). I suffered through math, I enjoyed science as long as I understood it, and I dreaded gym. Seriously, I know health is important and I’m all for health, but since when does health have to come with a whopping side of public humiliation?

So what about you? What are your fond school memories? How about the not so fond ones? Be sure to comment (with an email) and you’ll be put in a drawing to win your choice of my No Boundaries Press Titles (Either The Inheritance or Knocking Down Heaven’s Door) in PDF form.

And be sure to check out the rest of the authors on the hop!

SSS: The Inheritance

•September 9, 2012 • 2 Comments

I’m keeping with the theme and going back to my first e-book release with this week’s Six Sentence Sunday! Creepy dolls and psychological strain, anyone?

The Six:

“‘With his eyes still tightly shut, Zane’s good hand fumbled for the button to call the nurse. The box had slipped down under the covers and out of reach. If he opened his eyes to look for it he’d have to see the dear little girl gone wrong and all her features: the straight legs, un-skinned knees, and tidy little bows on scuffed shoes. But there would be no emotion and no hint of a smile. That was not how a child should behave. If anything, it was the demeanor of a killer.’”

12 Sentence Saturday: The Inheritance

•September 8, 2012 • Leave a Comment

So I was over-eager. Apparently THIS week is the first 12 Sentence Saturday! Oops.

Anywho, this week I’ll go back to my first e-book release, The Inheritance. It’s a dramatic, psychological horror-type story involving the strained relationship between a woman and her dying father. Oh, and there are mind-games involving a story and creepy dolls, too.

The Twelve:

“‘Zane’s neck ached from not enough movement and he winced when he tried to turn his head. All he had to do was look down. The tainted perfume grew stronger and crawled right up his nostrils to the working cells in his brain. The soft outline of a ragtag cut hair was just barely visible in his peripheral vision.’”

“‘Inhumanly smooth plastic brushed up his arm. The molded fingertips were permanently curled and the seams of the plastic bit ever-so-lightly into his skin. “Daddy, I’m a good girl.” The voice was a soft whisper that was close to — but not the same — as his daughter’s. “I’ll be your little girl. I’ll sit with you.” A tight whine strangled out of his throat. It was worse than if the doll had wanted to kill him.

Six Sentence Sunday: Knocking Down Heaven’s Door

•September 2, 2012 • Leave a Comment

It’s time for more six! This week’s sentences come from my most recent release, the YA story Knocking Down Heaven’s Door. At this point in the story the main character, Layla, has been forced to go to church camp against her will. She’s scoping out her new digs in this bit.

The Six:

It was amazing that the wooden structure hadn’t rotted away from being stuck back in the damp forest so long.

The inside of my cell didn’t give me a reason to be any more optimistic. Besides the obligatory sections of bunk beds there were wooden chests of drawers and a couple wobbly tables and chairs. It was all very Berenstain Bears meets Camp Crystal Lake. Still, it wasn’t like I had a choice in the matter. All I could really do was make the best of it and wait things out.

12 Sentence Saturday – Knocking Down Heaven’s Door

•September 1, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Welcome to a new feature I’m trying called 12 Sentence Saturday! This week’s twelve come from my most recent release, the YA story Knocking Down Heaven’s Door.

The Twelve

“I’m Layla,” I managed as I gracefully slammed my stuff onto the bottom bunk in an effort to encourage her to leave me alone.

“Isn’t that Hebrew for something?” she asked with a tilt of the head that was probably meant to show off her blonde locks. It just made her look like a curious Labrador retriever.

“Dunno. I think my parents’ gave me the name because they were listening to Derek and the Dominoes when I was conceived,” I said as I busied myself tucking clothes away and dutifully slid my Bible under my pillow. It was an outright lie, but it was worth seeing Missy’s baffled expression. Having an unusual name meant you got tired of explaining it really quick. I’d already come to the conclusion that as soon as I was old enough to get a tattoo I would get my name, its pronunciation, and its meaning inked someplace really visible so I’d never have to have that conversation ever again.

“Are you planning on wearing that to the orientation?” she asked in an attempt to change the subject, and nodded to my Led Zeppelin shirt. As she stared her expression grew dubious.  I wasn’t a size zero blonde cheerleader, but I wasn’t anything to sneeze at. Still, it seemed she was more interested in the strange, presumably satanic writing scrawled across my chest than my chest itself.

The Blurb

Remember when everyone else thought they knew you? Remember when everyone else thought they knew better?

Layla’s a small-town teen trying to be herself and is misinterpreted at every turn. She’s not popular  because her dad’s a minister and her interests never seem to match those around her. She’s learned to keep to herself and her music – big mistake. When her love of classic rock makes her parents wonder if she’s “getting ideas” she finds herself shipped off to church camp. There she’s faced with horrible food and her day is planned out by the millisecond. To make matters worse her bunkmate is the cheery, tow-the-line sort and Donna, her nemesis, is at the same camp and is determined to make things hard for her. The only thing Layla has left to cling to is her music, but when her interests and character are challenged will her faith in herself and her shaky trust in something more be strong enough to see her through?

Find out what happens when love and forgiveness become twisted by anger, retaliation, and disconnect.

(speculative erotica)

Drake has gotten used to having things his way – he makes the decisions whether it be recording his music, on the road while touring, or in bed. He may be somewhat older than when he first started, but he can still pack venues and still has fans at his mercy. But while professional success brings about one type of satisfaction, there’s a certain type he just can’t seem to reach one dull night after a show. He doesn’t party hard anymore – he knows better – but that doesn’t mean he can’t indulge in a dirty fantasy all his own. What would it be like to have ultimate power, to be able to shed the confines of his body and sneak up on the unsuspecting by way of astral travel? What would it be like to seduce a woman when she can’t see him, can only feel him when he wants her to? And what happens when he’s not the only one who appreciates good music and is turned on by the power of control?
